About Rachel

Rachel Millward is the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales. She has led Wealden District Council in Sussex, with a mission to make Wealden greener, fairer and kinder. Working in Alliance, she has led delivery of affordable and social housing, nature restoration across the district, and investment in community wellbeing including health centres, sports facilities and a cultural strategy.


Rachel is a regular guest on TV and radio, including BBC Politics, ITV Last Word, LBC and Times Radio.


Rachel entered politics from an award-winning career in the creative industries. She founded and directed a successful international film festival and national charity for women filmmakers, before directing a community arts space and a live music organisation. Rachel was awarded a Clore fellowship for film, nominated as a World Changing Woman by the Guardian and named as one of 50 Women to Watch by Arts Council England.


Rachel is a trustee of the renowned Ashdown Forest and a founding member of a Sussex river action group.
